I thought if I put the automation to, say, level 7 for red, 5 for green and 3 for blue, with the max at 255, 255, 255, then eventually I would get all the completions to 255, *, *, since red would go fastest, and green would be faster than blue. After getting to the 256 grid where there are many more multiples of color, I got an idea. This happened about 5 out of 6 times I would switch back. It would stop anywhere in it's progress, not just at the end of a completion, and it would happen with any or two or all three of the bars each time.

I came across a bug where, when I switched windows or tabs and came back, most of the time at least one bar had stopped moving.

For me, there'd have to be a way to automatically go from one goal to the next and automatically restart, as others have said, possibly with auto upgrades so I don't need to upgrade the speed for each color on each run. I'm at the 256 grid, and look forward to playing it possibly all the way after a few upgrades like others mentioned! Thanks again for the useful feedback, I appreciate it! This was more of a proof-of-concept and not a fully flushed out game. Game play doesn't change at all throughout the levels so you're not missing out on much by stopping at level 3. Its a good point that I could add some automated color selection based on goals rather than default to black/white.

When the custom start/end colors are unlocked, it allows for player freedom to choose which goals to go after and make decisions on how to finish the most goals in one gradient rather than just choose one goal as the start color and another goal as an end color. I'll add some more detailed tooltips perhaps, but the production upgrade increases the amount of progress which is made per click whereas the speed increases automation speed. The Help menu can be toggled with the (?) button in the top right, but it will also go away if you click anywhere on the tab, I'll make that clearer in the future.
